You might want to remove the base for category permalinks. For example, you might not want your category links to be http://example.com/cat-slug/ instead of http://example.com/category/cat-slug/. For that, we recommend using WP No Category Base – WPML Compatible.

In version 1.1.0 (the first stable release) compatibility was added to WP-PageNavi plugin. With this plugin, you can show paginations on archive pages, instead of older post and newer posts links. To achieve it, simply install the plugin from this link. That’s it, nothing else is necessary.
